Department History

The Department of Standardization and Food Technologies is a structural unit of M. Dulatov Kostanay University of Engineering and Economics.

The Department of Standardization and Food Technologies employs 20 staff members. Seventy percent of the teaching staff hold academic degrees. The average age of the staff is 40, while the average age of faculty members holding academic degrees and titles is 50. The department includes three corresponding members of the International Academy of Agricultural Education, three professors, four faculty members holding the academic title of Associate Professor (Docent) awarded by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Education and Science, one Honoured Worker of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and six senior lecturers. Instruction is provided in Kazakh and Russian. The department’s academic staff are members of the Educational and Methodological Association’s Academic Programme Management Groups for all educational programmes offered by the department. Thus, they actively contribute to the development of these programmes.

The instructors who teach specialized disciplines have relevant academic qualifications as well as teaching and professional experience. As one of the university’s principal academic and research units, the Department of Standardization and Food Technologies trains specialists in the following educational programmes:

The university holds licences for all the above-mentioned programmes, approved by order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The educational programmes 6B08127 «Agronomy», 6B07514 «Standardization and Certification», 6B07213 «Technology of Processing Industries (by Sector)», and 6B08147 «Agroecology» are accredited by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR).

There is strong regional demand for specialists trained under these educational programmes, as evidenced by the 100% employment rate among the department’s graduates. The graduates also have a unique opportunity to undertake internships and practical training through programmes offered by international partner universities in Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, France, Israel, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and other countries.

The affiliated department was established to train specialists for the agro-industrial sector and facilitate their academic and workplace adaptation through mutually beneficial, long-term cooperation. This is considered an essential condition for improving the quality of training provided to agronomists, food industry technologists, and technical regulation experts.

Cooperation

The department works closely with Zarechnoye Agricultural Experimental Station LLP, Olzha Agro LLP, Baltic Control LLP, Bayan Sulu JSC, the accredited testing laboratory of AllianceCom LLP, Karabalyk Agricultural Experimental Station, Kostanay Flour Mill JSC, the Kostanay Branch of KazInSt, the Kostanay Branch of the National Centre for Expertise and Certification JSC, the Republican Scientific and Methodological Centre for Agrochemical Services, SaryarkaAvtoProm LLP, Zhasybai XXI LLP, Kazlabservice LLP, the National Centre of Expertise under the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Agricultural Expertise JSC, and the Zhazken Zhiyembayev Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine LLP.

The department offers dual education within its educational programmes. Students enrolled in the Standardization and Certification programme receive training at Kazlabservice LLP, where they acquire practical skills relevant to their field of study.

Students enrolled in the Agronomy programme undertake dual education at the Kostanay Branch of the Zhazken Zhiyembayev Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine LLP. There, they have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and gain practical experience in agronomy, plant protection, and plant quarantine.

Dual education under the Agroecology programme is organised jointly with Zarechnoye Agricultural Experimental Station LLP. Through this partnership, students reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical work, participate in production and research activities, and develop professional competencies in agroecology.

This cooperation encompasses joint educational, industrial, and scientific activities governed by relevant agreements on dual and practice-oriented education. The department’s branches and training classrooms have been established and are currently operating at the facilities of these enterprises.

Department Goals

The Department of Standardization and Food Technologies has established the following educational quality objectives:

- To train highly qualified specialists who possess fundamental knowledge and are capable of effectively implementing innovations in agricultural science, engineering, and technology while preserving the values of classical education;
- To prepare specialists for experimental and research activities, including conducting experiments, taking measurements, making observations, and implementing research findings and scientific developments in agricultural production and the processing industry.

In its activities, the Department of Standardization and Food Technologies strives to guarantee and maintain a high standard of educational services through modern, innovative teaching technologies and the development of international cooperation with universities in neighbouring and other foreign countries.
